Search Bar Relocation Implementation

Overview

Successfully moved the search functionality from the top navigation to the main content area to improve mobile usability and prevent conflicts with user authentication, theme switching, and light/dark mode controls.

Changes Made

1. Created Reusable Search Component

• File: Views/Shared/_SearchBar.cshtml
• Features:
  • Large, mobile-friendly input field with prominent search icon
  • Responsive design that adapts to different screen sizes
  • Shows current search query with clear option
  • Enhanced visual styling with card container and shadow effects
  • Proper ARIA labels for accessibility

2. Removed Search from Navigation

• File: Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml
• Changes:
  • Removed desktop search form from top navigation
  • Removed mobile search from dropdown menu
  • Preserved theme switcher and user authentication controls
  • Cleaned up navigation structure for better mobile experience

3. Added Search Bar to Key Pages

Updated the following pages to include the new search bar:

• Home Page (Views/Home/Index.cshtml)

  • Added below hero section for immediate discoverability

• Artwork Index (Views/Artwork/Index.cshtml)

  • Added below page header for easy access to search

• Artwork Featured (Views/Artwork/Featured.cshtml)

  • Added below page header for consistent experience

• Search Results (Views/Artwork/SearchResults.cshtml)

  • Replaced existing search form with new component
  • Maintained search context and clear functionality

• Artwork Filter (Views/ArtworkFilter/Index.cshtml)

  • Added below page header to complement filtering options

4. Enhanced CSS Styling

• File: wwwroot/css/site.css
• Additions:
  • Mobile-responsive search bar styles
  • Hover effects and smooth transitions
  • Focus states for better accessibility
  • Consistent spacing and visual hierarchy
  • Proper badge styling for search results
